About Acrylics - maintenance and protection

Acrylics are modern and versatile alternative to oil paint. Acrylic paintings develop cracks much less often than oil paintings - they are more flexible and can withstand much greater forces without breaking. The dried acrylic paint is not water soluble.

To protect your investment, please read the following tips on acrylic paintings maintenance:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and fluctuating or high humidity. Use acid-free matting and framing.

  • For the best protection - a non-glare UV-protecting glass is recommended, but usually (in a room environment) no protection is necessary.

  • To remove dust: use feather duster or a brush.

  • To clean acrylic or oil paintings - use damp cloth, dry immediately with cloth (no hot air).

  • Being exposed to sub-zero temperatures, acrylics can become brittle and they will crack.

  • Varnishes provide surface protection from abrasion, dust and dirt.If you want your painting to be varnished, we suggest to use a water soluble varnish.
